Deepened layer with background structure
It is possible to build up your medal from different layers. Often a relief is applied to the first layer. The second, raised, layer is smooth. The smooth metal of the top layer contrasts well with the deepened layer with background structure.
Background structure and transparent colouring
By combining two medal options, a really cool effect is created. First a background structure is applied to a part of the medal. The medal is then coloured with a transparent PMS colour. The structure is therefore still visible through the colouring. A nice example are the custom running medals of Kustmarathon Zeeland.
