For years, the
Seven Hills Run has attracted thousands of runners from The Netherlands and abroad to Nijmegen. The course is considered the most beautiful in the Netherlands. In addition, the current world records over 15 km for men and women were run in Nijmegen. The evening before the Seven Hills Run the Seven Hills Night Run takes place.
The Seven Hills Run has won the European Race of the Year Award from the
European Athletics Association (EAA). The Seven Hills Run was chosen as the 2019 winner because the organisation stands out in terms of sustainability, social inclusion and community involvement. The latter is demonstrated, among other things, by the organisation of the NK Running Blind Weekend: the most accessible running event for people with a visual impairment.
‘This award is for everyone who has helped bring the Seven Hills Run to where we are today. We see the award as confirmation that we are on the right track and will continue to develop so that we can continue to offer our runners a sustainable and fantastic running experience in the future.’ Director Alexander Vandevelde
Seven Hills organises its events in the most sustainable way possible. For example, the organisation encourages the use of public transport, the catering for the hundreds of volunteers and guests is locally produced with seasonal products and waste is treated as sustainably as possible. Every edition, they look at what new steps can be taken.
