The
Berlin Marathon has been part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors since 2006. The association of the six largest marathons in the world: Tokyo, London, Boston, Chicago, New York and Berlin. If you complete all six marathons as a participant, you will receive the illustrious Six Star Medal.
The Berlin Marathon is not only part of the six World Major Marathons, but is also one of the most sought-after marathons in the world. This is partly due to the beautiful route, which runs right through the German capital. Participants start in the green park the Tiergarten. The route then runs right through the city centre, passing historic buildings like the Reichstag and traversing well-known shopping streets like the Kurfürstendamm. The finish line behind the Brandenburg Gate guarantees sensational photos.
The Berlin Marathon is one of the fastest marathons in the world. Thanks to particularly few altimeters, Berlin is the ideal place for a personal record. Many straights and few turns ensure that participants can maintain a nice pace. The roads are wide and participants do not get in each other's way. Moreover, the weather in September is usually perfect. Consequently, more world records have been broken on Berlin's fast pavement than at any other marathon in the world: as many as 13 so far!
