Bespoke medals

The design of the medal uses various options to ensure that it perfectly matches the destination and the unique features of the event. Below, we would like to show you some examples of the bespoke medals.

All medal options

First Light Marathon

The First Light Marathon takes place at Tairāwhiti Gisborne in New Zealand. Participants will witness the world's first sunrise! Furthermore, the landscape is characterised by challenging grassy hills, beautiful beaches and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The marathon is part of a cultural journey. Gisborne is home to a large Māori population, so the trip is all about learning about Māori culture and its historical significance. The medal design is also based on cultural Māori traditions. The text ‘Aotearoa’ on the bespoke medals is Māori for ‘New Zealand’. Isn't it a gorgeous medal?

Great Wall Marathon

Running across the Great Wall in China, one of the seven modern wonders of the world. The first part of the course continuously ascends and descends a whopping 5,164 steps. Runners run up, over the wall and down again. The second part of the course leads runners across the surrounding countryside and through picturesque farming villages. The medal design of this marathon obviously focuses on the Great Wall. The bespoke medals are a well-deserved reward for this gruelling marathon.

Big Five Marathon

The Big Five Marathon takes place in South Africa among the wildlife of the African savannah of Entabeni. No fences, no rivers: absolutely nothing separates the runners from the African wildlife! The course crosses the habitat of African wildlife, including the famous Big Five: elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Each year, a different animal from the Big Five takes centre stage in the bespoke medals design.

Petra Desert Marathon

An ancient city carved into rocks of reddish-brown sandstone: cave city of Petra. Once again, a modern wonder of the world provides the backdrop for a running event. This unique archaeological site is located in western Jordan, between the Dead and Red Seas. The Petra Desert Marathon starts in the ancient cave city of Petra and leads runners past incredible tombs, hillside sculptures and caves, before venturing into the arid, lunar landscape of the Jordanian desert. The entrance to the city features the design of the bespoke medals, which participants receive at the finish.

Bespoke medals of the Polar Circle Marathon and Polar Bear Challenge

A marathon in one of the most remote corners of the world: Greenland. The Polar Circle Marathon is also known as ‘the coldest marathon on earth’. The endless ice and arctic tundra form the backdrop of this extraordinary running event. Participants can register for the marathon on Saturday and for the half marathon on Sunday. Or for both events. Participants, who finish both races within the time limit, will receive the special Polar Bear Challenge medal in addition to the bespoke medals for the half marathon and the full marathon. After all, the polar bear is the Arctic Circle's most powerful predator.
